Lunar days
Traditionally, we do not practice Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga on full moon and new moon days, as these are energetically days when we are more sensitive.
The Moon has a powerful effect on our minds and emotions, when it is renewed or saturated in a two-week cycle, people - even if they are not always aware of it - feel it. Our minds are much more sensitive on these days (the very sensitive can feel its effects even 1-2 days before and after), some people ride an emotional roller coaster. At such times, we can even get injured in difficult physical exercise, so it is important to rest, contemplate, and be quiet during these periods.
This is especially important for practitioners who practice six times a week. Resting on “moon days” (as the Ashtanga community calls them) helps to build and maintain a long-term sustainable practice. On these days, rest, go to the bath, and take time to recharge, heal, and build.
